Sonya’s Blog - Day 325 - May 12th - Exploring Port Angeles
First thing in the morning we went into the main centre of Port Angeles. The wifi at the campground was really bad and Blake had a couple of jobs he needed to apply to, and for that we needed wifi. We found a nice Coffee Shop and got to work. The kids worked on their schooling, I worked on my backlog of blogs and Blake worked on applying for jobs. Blake’s leave is ending on June 1st and things are not looking good right now. There are some jobs at Husky that have come up, that he is qualified for, but not much response from Husky so far on those. Who knows what is happening over there. For us, it is extremely frustrating. He has also applied for several other positions with other companies, as Husky told him to look outside the company as well. He hasn’t received much of a response, so far, but here’s hoping. Competition is pretty tough in the oil patch right now, so who knows.
When that was all done, we walked up and down the street to check out things. There were a few unique stores and a great Olympic Visions Square. Here is the picture:

We only had 2 hour parking, so when our time was up we left. We decided to go to Salt something something park and check it out. It was right on the ocean and it had a great shoreline. We had a picnic lunch and then went and explored the shore, which was all rocks with lots of tide-pools. We had fun exploring and climbing on the rocks.

We then walked around the trails for a bit and then took the road to look at the WWII Bunker. It was pretty cool, it was very well camouflaged. Here are the pictures;

We then headed back to the campsite and Isaac started up another fire. We needed to burn the rest of our wood because we cannot take it into Canada tomorrow. We noticed this carving in the tree stump right beside our campsite, so cool:

We had supper and then Blake and I decided to take Kizmet for a walk down the old Elwha Dam road and check out the old dam site. It was a very pretty walk and the river has cut quite the ravine:

Tomorrow we are catching the ferry to Victoria, BC from Port Angeles. We were originally booked on the 2 PM ferry, but decided to change it to the 8:20 AM ferry. Both the kids agreed that they would rather get to Victoria earlier and have some time in the afternoon to explore. If we caught the 2 PM ferry, we would just waste the day waiting around for the ferry and then we wouldn’t be set up at our campsite until suppertime. This means we need to be at the ferry terminal no later than 7:20 AM, so a very early wake-up. We decided that we would just get up and leave and then have breakfast once we were all checked in. This allowed up to put everything away and be all set to just hook up in the morning. This prep took the rest of the night and we all went to bed to be ready for our early morning.
