Sonya’s Blog - Day 322 - May 9th - Astoria

We are off to Astoria today. It is about a 40 minute drive to Astoria. Isaac is super excited to go, as this is where The Goonies was filmed. Now we didn’t know that, but Isaac watched the movie a few nights ago and informed us of this and asked if we were going. We were going, as it turned out, because it has the nearest Ford dealership and we needed an oil change.

The dealership was nice enough to provide a shuttle to take us downtown, so that we could look around while the truck was being serviced. They had no problem with Kizmet joining us on our shuttle ride.

We just walked up and down the downtown area and poked in and out of the shops. There was a cool shop that had comic books and an arcade in the back, but it was closed on Mondays, so Isaac was crestfallen.

The lady that had given us the ride suggested we have fish and chips at the Bow Picker, but it was closed on Mondays as well. We found a nice pub, with a patio, that allowed us to have Kizmet with us. There were actually quite a few people having lunch on the patio with their dogs today, so it was the thing to do.

The Public House on the end is where we had lunch, you cannot see the patio in my picture:

After lunch we explored a few more shops until the truck was finished. Once we had the truck back, we went to find The Goonies house. Well I guess some grumpy person owns it, because they really do not want fans of the movie checking out the property. There is a big sign that says only local traffic allowed, no tourists allowed. The block leading up to that street has signs that say absolutely not stopping, parking and taking photos. Astoria is not very excited to be made famous by that movie, well not that neighbourhood. We still got a picture:

On our way back to Cannon Beach, we stopped in Seaside and walked on the Promenade. We walked all the way to the end and then walked back via the beach. It was a lovely walk.

A snail enjoying the promenade:

When we got back, we had supper and then didn’t do much else.
