Sonya’s Blogs - Day 234 - February 11th - Hanging out in Galveston
We have stuff to catch up on today, with regards to some paperwork, laundry and cleaning up the RV. I have yet to get a clear answer from our Property Rental company about where we stand when the tenants break the lease at the end of February. That is adding a bit to my stress level and we may have to re-work all our plans as a result. Lots of emailing back and forth about that, but no definitive answers from them. What a gong show.
We did take a break and head to the hot tub. We had the whole thing to ourselves, always a bonus. Isaac got in the Infinity Pool and had a swim, it was some chilly. Looks cool though.
Blake and I also had to get out and do some grocery shopping to stock up for the week. Galveston is obviously a vacation resort area, judging from the number of hotels and beaches along the seawall. There is also Pleasure Pier, which is an amusement park on a pier. It is not open right now, but might be on the weekend. Not that we will go, in all likelihood.
We finally decided to get outside and walk along the beach with Kizmet. We can see the beach from our campsite. It is a very large beach, but not the nicest sand. Kizmet was so excited to be back on the beach, she doesn’t care what it looks like. It is good times, chasing birds, running in and out of the waves and playing with other dogs.
Before we had headed off to the beach we met some of our neighbours because their Chihuahua, Pico, came over to say hello. He was the friendliest Chihuahua we had ever met. No barking or snarling or having any Napoleon complexes. He was cute, for a Chihuahua. They told us about a theatre production that they were going to tonight at the Grand 1894 Opera House. It was a musical about all the great songs of the late 30’s to 40’s. It was doing a tour of the country, so was only in Galveston for the one night. We looked up ticket prices, after our walk, and good get decent seats for about $22. They had other, pricier tickets, but we are on a budget. We chose to buy the tickets and make a go of it.
I decided to try and make Gumbo as I had bought all the ingredients. Well, it takes a long time to make a dark roux and I ran out of time. My roux was fantastic, it just wasn’t dark:( I will try again when I have more time. I got the Gumbo made and it was so good, even though I rushed it a bit.
We rushed off to the show, it was only 5 minutes away. Our seats were up on the balcony, but we had a fine view of the stage so we were happy we got the cheaper tickets. The theatre was very nice and was all fancy like. Here is a picture of the boys on the stairs:
The show was good. The first half were songs that lead up to the US entry into WWII and then the second 1/2 was all the songs during the war years. The musicians, dancers and singers were all very good and talented. It was very entertaining, although some of the songs were a little slow and boring (just that era, I guess). The show was called ‘In The Mood”.
When we got back it was after 10, so we all went to bed.
