Sonya’s Blog - Day 319 - May 6th - Cannon Beach

We had the mobile RV repair guy come this morning, which was a waste of time and money. What a rip job. He was at our RV for maybe five minutes and told us we would need to take it to an RV repair shop. Jeez, thanks. We would still need to pay him for his travel time, so $225 later, he was on his way. We told him exactly what sound the slide was making on the phone, pretty sure he should have known he couldn’t fix it. That doesn’t make him any money though, what a con artist. We were pretty angry about it.

We then spent the rest of the morning getting in touch with the dealership that we bought it from and trying to find somewhere that could fix it in a timely manner. The moron that came to our RV this morning, had no idea what was wrong with it. He kept going on about these pins that they use when they build it, and that they are going to have to take apart the whole floor of our RV. We were pretty sure it was the gears, because it sounds like they are slipping. Sure enough, when Blake described the sound to the techs at the dealerships, they said we need a new gearbox. Getting an appointment is another matter. We found an RV repair place in Kelowna that can fix it, while we are in the Okanogan. They are ordering the part and will be ready to fix it, when we arrive. Hopefully, all will go well. RV repair places are hit and miss, some are great and others just aren’t. Let us hope, this one has the part when we get there and can repair it quickly.

I have been following the Fort McMurray fire pretty closely on CBC News for the last few days. I cannot believe how big that fire has gotten and the devastation. My thoughts are with all those poor people that had to flee and now face weeks to months of uncertainty. I have had quite a few people notice that we are from Alberta and talk to us about the fire as well, so it is certainly getting a lot of attention, even in the USA. Everyone we have talked to is very sympathetic and hope for a turnaround soon and some kind of relief. Looking at the weather reports though, it doesn't seem like much relief is in sight. So unfortunate.

The boys headed for the pool and hot tub, after all that hubbub. Natasha and I headed into town to walk around and check things out. Our first stop was the used bookstore. We each got a couple of books, because we have a hard time not finding something to read in a used bookstore. We dropped our books off at the truck and went to explore some more. There are a lot of unique stores in Cannon Beach and we had fun poking around. There were also your standard beach shops and tourist shops, so Natasha managed to get her keychain. We also bought some salt water taffy for a treat, but nothing else. Being that we are in an RV and on a budget, we just cannot afford to buy whatever we want. We don’t need it anyway, we have lots of stuff, in fact, we have far too much stuff.

Shopping district in Cannon Beach:

When we were finished walking around, we stopped at the grocery store to pick up food for supper. We got back to the RV around 5 and the boys were there as well. They had taken Kizmet to the beach for a walk, so that was good. We had supper and then just hung out.
