Sonya’s Blog - Day 312 - April 29th - Crescent City and the Beach

Today was a cleaning and getting organized day. The kids needed to update their spreadsheets for schooling and work on their various subjects. Nothing too exciting. Our campground it quite pretty, we have some Redwoods around us:

Blake and I did have to run into Crescent City to get some groceries and some stationary for Natasha (for a school project). Crescent City is not very large, so it is easy to navigate. We did discover the cheese factory, which was fantastic. They had some very fresh cheese curds (the squeakier they are, the fresher) and some neat cheeses, so we stocked up. We found the cheese place and the beach, because we were given terrible directions to the stationary store. This worked out well for us, because it allowed us to find these two places.

It is a very pretty, rocky beach. We took a picture and will come back on the weekend with the kids to explore:

We finally found the stationary store (thanks to our GPS) and headed back to camp. The kids had been working diligently on their school work, so we had some lunch and headed out to the beach.

The wind had picked up quite a bit, so it was extremely windy on the beach. We walked for a bit and there was a seal on the beach. At first, we were not sure if the seal was alive. It then moved it’s head, so we knew it was alive. We went to make sure it wasn’t hurt or something, but it just seemed to be taking a nap. It didn’t seem like a very old seal, but what do we know about seals? Not much. We checked to see if we should report this event, but I guess this is quite common. Harbour Seal mother’s will leave their babies on the beach for up to 48 hours, while they go eat, and then come back for them. So there you have it, all was good. Luckily, we had put Kizmet back on her leash before she saw the seal. She was pretty interested, once she spotted it, but we kept a tight hold of her.

We headed back to camp after our beach adventure and Blake started a fire - he is so excited because we have fire pits and he can have a fire in them. Everyone rejoice!!!!
