Sonya’s Blog - Day 311 - April 28th - Driving to Crescent City
We have a long drive ahead of us today, over 6 hours. We are also going to be traveling along the 101, which takes us along the coast and is a bit of a slower highway. It took us quite awhile to get all packed up and on the road, so this didn’t help things at all.
When Blake was driving I sat in the back with Kizmet, because I, evidently, freak out too much for Blake. He got the pleasure of Isaac's company in the front seat and Kizmet was super excited to have me in the back seat with her:
I started off the drive, since I feel more awake and alert in the mornings. We were camping just off the 101, so we just had to go right our of our campground and we were heading north. We are on this highway, pretty much for the rest of our journey in the States. The highway was fine for the first hour or so, we were still in heavily populated areas and it was divided with 2 or 3 lanes per side. As the drive progressed, the highway changed to undivided with passing lanes every once in awhile. We went through some beautiful parts of the Redwood Forests, but the road was narrow, with lots of turns. We certainly couldn’t go very fast.
One Log House across from where we gassed up:
The Redwoods, as we drove along:
We did drive along the coast, as well, but not as much as I thought we would. As predicted, the drive took a very long time as we couldn’t go very fast. We arrived at our new campground at 5”45, so by the time we were set up and having supper it was 7.
A stop along the coast, during our drive:
The road we just came down, along the same coastal stop as above, we are still over an hour from our destination:
We had supper and called it a night.
