Sonya’s Blog - Day 310 - April 27th - Giants vs Padres

Blake was all excited because we had tickets to see a baseball game today at AT&T Park, which is right off the harbour in San Francisco. He was most excited because our tickets were only $8 each and allowed us to get $5 off, per ticket, at the concession or stores.

We were going to catch the 9 AM ferry, but it was pouring rain at that time. We decided to wait until the next ferry, hoping that the rain would die down. It did and we caught the 10:10 AM ferry. Once we got to San Francisco, we had about an hour before we needed to get to the stadium. We got the street car to Pier 39, because Isaac had decided he wanted something at one of the stores. Pier 39 was busy, but not crazy busy like the last time we were there. We all bought a souvenir or two and then hopped back on the street car to take us to the stadium.

I was surprised at how busy the game was, since it was a Wednesday and the game started at 12:30. I guess lots of people have time to take the afternoon to watch a game in the middle of the week. Well, it was a baseball game. It is not my favourite sport and I find the games a bit slow. The sun was shining and we had good views of the bay, so that was good. Blake made friends with the guy next to him and had a good time chatting it up and high fiving the guy when the Giants scored. They had a Splash Hits on the wall that backs onto the McCovey Cove. The number said 68, and that is the number of times the Giants have hit a homerun into the cove, since the stadium opened 17 years ago. The guy next to Blake told us that it is only a record of the Giants splash hits, not other teams. We didn’t get to see one today, there hasn’t been one for over a year. There were some home runs during the game, but none went into the water. Of the 68, 35 of them were scored by Barry Bonds.

Splash Hits Counter is beside the Levis sign:

The game was okay, there were a lot of runs scored. In the end the Giants won, 13-9. When the game was over, we walked back to the ferry terminal, which was about 2 KM’s away. We were going to catch the street car, but there were a lot of people waiting and we thought it would take too long. On the way back, there was a Monster Truck parked on the side of the road and they were handing out free Monster drinks. They must have new flavours or something, so they were handing out Peach Iced Tea or Lemonade Tea. We all got one, except for Isaac as he was too young and there is too much caffeine in them. They were okay, but I would probably never buy one, they wee a bit too sweet for me. The lemonade was better, good enough for a free drink though.

Walking past the Bay Bridge on the way back to the ferry:

We arrived just in time at the ferry, it was lined up to board. It was just after 5, so we were pretty sure it was going to be super busy. We did manage to get seats, but not all together. Tash and I sat together and Blake and Isaac found seats elsewhere. We were back at the campground and walking Kizmet before 6 PM, so that was pretty good. I took her on a long walk, while Blake and the kids made supper. Nothing too exciting happened, we saw a dead rat, which was pretty gross. Otherwise it was a nice walk.

That was it for the day.
