Sonya's Blog - Day 242 - Back to the Riverwalk
Sonya’s Blog - Day 242 - February 19th - Back to the Riverwalk
Blake really wanted to go back to the Riverwalk and explore some more and have some lunch down there. We headed out just after 10. We parked right beside the performing arts center, which was a cool building. They also had a very nice, but tragic, Vietnam War Memorial in the same area:
We walked over to the Riverwalk and descended down to the pathways. Blake really wanted to find a coffee shop, but there aren’t any down there. We settled for a Mexican restaurant instead. We had a great waiter and a seat right beside the river. There is no guardrail along the pathway system and as we were walking along it we wondered how many people fall in. Well, our waiter answered that question when he told us if anyone falls in, just tell them to stand up. The water is only about 3 feet deep right now. We asked if lots of people fall in and he said yes, especially during Spring Break.
After lunch, we were near the Alamo, so we headed back because we didn’t get to explore the inside last time. We went in the church and had a look around. They had David Crocket’s rifle and some other stuff. We then went and watched a short 15 minute video about The Alamo and why it is so important to the history of Texas. Well I summed that all up in my last blog, so I knew most of it.
We then went back to the Riverwalk and walked back to the street our truck was parked on. We were out of the main area of the Riverwalk and on the other side of the river this time. As a result, there are not as many staircases. We had to go past our street for a couple of blocks before we could get up to street level. Isaac was convinced we were going to have to scale the walls!
When we got back to the RV, I took Kizmet on a very long walk along the river path. After that we all headed to the pool, it was another hot day! I didn’t go in the pool, I sat poolside and booked some more campgrounds. We had nothing booked for New Mexico and we are heading there tomorrow! I had no problem getting bookings, but it is nice to have these things in place. I booked everything up until Phoenix. I will take care of Arizona tomorrow.
After supper we watched an episode of Merlin and then did some packing up to get ready to leave tomorrow. We have a long drive ahead of us tomorrow and we want to get an early start.
