Sonya’s Blog - Day 233 - February 10th - Driving to Galveston, Texas
We have a long, boring drive ahead of us. We got up and packed up and were out by 9:30 AM, which is good for us. To keep us in a cheerful mood, we hung some beads and the fuzzy dice we got from the Mardi Gras parades on our rearview mirror.
The drive out of New Orleans and through the Bayou was pretty cool, but then there was not much to see after that. We did manage to get stuck in traffic, on a freeway we could not get off of, for over an hour. This added a lot of time to our drive.
We had to bypass Houston on our way to Galveston. We hit some pretty heavy traffic there as well, but it kept moving. We had to pass refinery row, well that is a sight. Not a good sight, but a sight nonetheless. It goes for miles on both sides of the highway. We also passed Texas City. Wow, is that ever massive.
Galveston is right on the Gulf of Mexico. It is an Island, connected to the mainland by a large bridge. Our new campground is right off of the public beach. We didn’t get into the campground until 6:30, or so, so it was already dark. We set up as quickly as possible, had some supper and called it a night.
