Sonya’s Blog - Day 186 - December 25th - CHRISTMAS DAY!!

Merry Christmas everyone!! We hope that you have the merriest of Christmasses.

Today was a pretty casual day in the Reid RV. The kids didn’t get up until after 8. Kizmet had us up at 7:30 or so, so we had a nice sleep in. Blake got up and put the kettle on for tea and took Kizmet for her morning stroll. By the time he came back our Christmas Morning Tea was steeping and we got back in bed to enjoy our cuppa. It’s our favourite way to start the day. Isaac was up by this time and he came in to regale us Isaac style.

Natasha got up a little while later and the kids opened their stockings. Now we did not have commercial stockings and we didn’t bring ours from home. I have some super long socks, so we did it the old fashioned way and just used regular socks. It worked out well, here is the picture:

Blake started on breakfast, he decided to make Eggs Florentine, a favourite of all of ours. Since everything happens in our one main room, pretty much (except for the sleeping and hiding from other family members), and it is a small room the kids opened presents while Blake made breakfast. He was right there the whole time, so he missed nothing. We had a few people (like their Nana and their Grandparents) send money for Christmas, so they ended up having more presents than we had thought. We had told them, repeatedly, that this trip was the main gift and it wouldn’t be a huge Christmas with a ton of gifts. Well they had a good haul, so they were both very happy. We opened a few before breakfast and then the rest after breakfast.

After all the presents were opened, it was time to start calling family members. We started with Blake’s sister, Suzanne, in Pittsburgh and moved through the list from there. We had a lot of phone calls to make and it took hours (we didn’t even manage to talk to everyone). We also had quite a few lovely emails and some text messages from other friends and family. It was lovely to talk to everyone and get Christmas wishes.

I started on supper at 4 PM. We are having turkey with stuffing and cranberries, mashed potatoes, garlic green beans with pine nuts. I just have turkey breasts, but I am making a stuffing and then cooking the turkey breasts on top in a small casserole dish. Blake also bought a sweet potato pie for dessert, but I won’t be surprised if we don’t eat that today. We hardly ever have dessert and after a big meal it is the last thing we want. After I had done all my prep work and the turkey was in the oven, we played Love Letters - Batman. We had played Love Letters when we were in Pittsburgh, but Isaac got the game for Christmas and he got the Batman version. We played a few rounds, until I had to get back to the supper. It is a super easy game to play and it was fun.

After supper, Blake and I decided to take Kizmet on a long walk. It had cooled down and the mosquitoes weren’t out anymore. We were only out about 5 minutes when someone started setting off fireworks, so that walk was over. Kizmet started dragging us back to the RV and won’t go back outside now. Poor Kizmet.

We are going to watch a The Santa Clause tonight with Tim Allen. Always good for a chuckle.

Merry Christmas,

Sonya
