Happy Christmas Eve Eve
Happy Christmas Eve Eve, people. Also, happy birthday to my wonderful grandfather. At a recommendation from a pastor that we’d met yesterday while volunteering, we decided to head over to The Wilkes House for a traditional Southern lunch. Well now, as the Wilkes House is first come, first serve until they run out of food, it was recommended that we line up early so as to get fed before they closed. We ended up leaving at 10:30am, for lunch mind you, and got in line at ten to 11:00am. The boys were relatively happy to stand in line and play their video games, so Mum and I checked out a little boutique next door while we were waiting. They had lots of cute stuff inside, including a little gold necklace I liked, which had a charm that you could get with your initial on it.
It took over and hour to get into the restaurant, which is a little bit ridiculous. When we got in, all the food was already set out on the tables and we were with five other people, since each table is set for ten and they want to maximize their space. While we passed around dishes and served ourselves with more food than we could eat, we talked with our new table buddies, telling them about our trip and we heard some little stories about themselves. We didn’t even come close to cleaning out any of the dishes by the time we were all full and then they brought out dessert, mini peach cobblers or
a bowl of banana pudding, your choice. I chose the cobbler an managed to eat it even though I was already stuffed. After we finished and paid, we walked around town some more, checking out more of the squares, where I was given a sweetgrass rose, and we called Grandpa to wish him a happy birthday. While Dad was on the phone, Mum and I wandered some more, checking out little shops and boutiques. When we got back, Dad was off the phone and we started in the direction of St. John the Baptist Cathedral, as it was on the list of top things to do in Savannah. After a few wrong turns, we managed to
find our way over and it was indeed a very pretty cathedral and it had been decorated for Christmas with a massive Cresh in the front, depicting both the birth and death of Jesus as well as the travels of the wise men. It was quite stunning. I also lit a prayer candle since lighting candles is fun and gave a donation to the church. It was really cool to see. When we got outside once again, it appeared that a storm was blowing in, so we hurried towards the truck so we could get back to camp before the rain started. At the trailer, Dad skyped the family back home so we could talk to everyone who was over at the grandparents house for Grandpa’s party. Then, after supper we watched Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase which is always a good Christmas movie. Peace out m8s.
