Sonya’s Blog - Day 168 - December 7th - Driving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

We are off to Myrtle Beach today. It is supposed to rain all day so we changed our dates a little and decided to drive today instead of on Wednesday when it was supposed to be beautiful. We would have just sat around staring at each other because it was just dumping it down by the time we left. It was also raining in Myrtle Beach, but it was supposed to taper off earlier there than in Wilmington.

The drive was only going to take 2 1/2 hours or so, so we were not in a huge hurry. We got everything done inside and then Blake braved the outside. He had already cleaned up a lot outside the night before because we knew it was going to start raining during the night. We got out of there just before 11 and were on our way. The roads had a lot of water on them so we had to go a bit slower, but otherwise the drive was pretty uneventful.

Myrtle Beach is very touristy and has lots of tacky touristy stuff to do like Ripley's, Wax Museums and Medieval Dinners. There are miles of shops and stuff along the highway we were driving down to get to our campground. Seemed a little excessive.

We are staying at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. This is a very large property with a mixture of houses, cabins and campsites. It is right on the beach and our campsite is opposite the beach, which is pretty sweet. They have a lot of amenities at the campground, but I chose it because it has an indoor pool that is still open. They also had really good winter rates, so that was also a bonus.

It had stopped raining by the time we were ready to set up, which was nice. We got all set up and had a late lunch. We do have a view of the ocean from our campsite, but they are also doing some construction near our site as well. Hopefully they will not start up too early in the morning. Isaac was itching to try out the pool so Blake and Isaac headed to there to check it out. Natasha was working on her Social Studies project and I just read my book.

View from our RV:

After supper Blake and the kids watched Return of the Jedi and I read some more of my book. I am interested enough in it, but I still don’t love it. Gotta get through it now as I am too far in.
