Sonya's Blog - Day 164 - Exploring the Historic District in Wilmington

Sonya’ Blog - Day 164 - December 3rd - Exploring the Historic District in Wilmington

We had a slow start to the morning. Blake is still coughing a lot. He has some medicine, but I also made him some natural cough remedies, this morning. Who knows if they will work, but they make him drink more fluids, so that will help.

It was really warm in the early morning when I went to walk Kizmet, but the wind picked up as the morning progressed and it cooled down. It was still warm, but the wind was cool. Supposed to be a high of 13 today, so not the warmest day.

We spent the morning getting organized and deciding what to do. I bought tickets for the ballet on Saturday night called A Carolina Nutcracker. It takes place after the Civil War and combines historical characters with the classic ballet. Should be interesting, it gets good reviews. There are lots of Christmas things happening in the area. Tomorrow night there is a parade along Carolina Beach, so we will check that out. Next Saturday the owners of the historic houses open their doors and you can wander through and check them out - so sad we are not going to be here for that. Ah well, that is the way it goes.

Blake set up the new HP computer and got all the software loaded onto it. It was a little frustrating, but he got it done in the end. He did remember why PC’s were so frustrating to deal with and why we prefer Mac computers. Not that Mac’s are completely free of frustration, but they are easier to set up and get going on.

We had lunch and then left to explore Historic Wilmington. We found parking right away, but a lot of the Riverwalk was closed due to upgrades. We finally found a portion that was open and walked along it. There were lots of restaurants and boat tour companies along the riverwalk. When we got to the end we found a Coffee Shop and as an added bonus it was dog friendly, Kizmet could actually go inside with us. She got a treat at the counter and there were bowls of water out for her. I was amazed, I have never seen a coffee shop that allowed dogs inside. While we were ordering another lady came in with her dog, a puppy. Kizmet and the puppy said hello, but the puppy really wanted to play so the lady had to pick her up. We sat down to have our warm drinks and Kizmet just laid down and had a rest, it was very nice.

We then walked along the street and checked out some of the shops and markets. Natasha was so excited because she found a keychain that had her name on it. It is very difficult to find Natasha, they always have Natalie. As a bonus it had North Carolina and Cape Fear on it, all the things she wanted on her keychain for this area. We also found a music store and bought some more Rosin for the Violin. Natasha had left our Rosin somewhere and it is needed for the bow. We also found a nice little Italian market and bought some supper items there.

Our time was up on our parking meter, so we walked back to the truck and headed back to the campground. We dropped off Kizmet and the kids and then Blake and I headed out to the grocery store to stock up. When we got back we started on supper. We had bought some fresh Spinach Ravioli and some Prosciutto for supper. The prosciutto was not the thin sliced stuff, but more like a steak and had to be cooked. We also made a huge salad. Everything was really tasty, but the prosciutto stead was really salty, too salty for us. Luckily, we each only had a few small pieces.

After supper we got all set up to watch The Empire Strikes Back. Blake wants to be all prepared for when the new movies are released. I think he is already prepared since he quoted half the movie while it was playing, which is super annoying because I am trying to watch the movie.

Tomorrow we are going to explore the Brunswick Islands and check out the parade.
