Old Vegas

Today we decided to head out into the world of Atlantic City and walk the famous boardwalk. It took us a while to get out but we ended up doing it and got into the city by noon. Woohoo. We brought Kizzy this time, since it was mostly outdoor walking and she was excited. The

city is on a little island and is of course very gamble-y and casino-y. It has never served any other purpose than to be a resort town and it has upheld it’s touristyness until today. Apparently it’s way sketchier than Vegas though, but it’s basically an older, more run-down Vegas. It’s prime was during the ’30’s and the population has gone down ever since. The population now is about two-thirds the population back then. We spent most of the time

walking along the boardwalk, which was originally built to keep out sand from peoples lobbies. We ate lunch around 2:00pm and then Dad went to move the truck closer to us while Mum took Isaac and I to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum. The inside was pretty cool. I found my new car, which is three wheeled, bubble shaped and completely road legal. They have an authentic Gypsy wagon, hand painted by the gypsies that used to travel in it and preserved. It has a bed

at the front, cupboards, chairs and a coal stove near the back. It’s basically a trailer sans electricity and a whole lot prettier. They also had an exhibit that was entirely made up of models of a chateau. It’s not a real chateau, just one that an architect had envisioned and then created by carving seventeen individual rooms out of wood. The bathroom alone was incredible. One of the grossest exhibits was the one about people who had suffered awful injuries and

survived. To give you an example, one man has a four foot metal rod end up through his head and lived another 13 years after getting it removed. Two of the most fun were a tunnel rotating walls that made you feel like you were tilting sideways when you walk

through it and a laser maze, the likes of which one would observe in a spy movie. I must say, I was pretty frickin good at that maze. Once we left the museum, we headed down to the beach where we let Kizmet off leash so she could run around. We walked all the way down to Caeser’s, which is a famous casino apparently, got pictures at the Miss America statue and stage, witnessed an arrest and then headed back on our way. I wanted to go in a cupcake shop that we’d passed earlier but it was closed so we bought some salt water taffy at a candy shop instead. I bought three, a tea berry one, which turned out just to be mint and was very disappointing, a pumpkin spice and a cookie dough. They were pretty good. Before we set back out for the truck, we stopped by the Trump Taj Mahal so Mum and Isaac could go to the bathroom and so I could get a handstand picture under the Steel Pier sign, which was mounted on a plus 15. Then it was time to head home since it was getting dark. Back at the trailer I froze my hands off while making burgers and then cut up some veggies for dinner. Peace out m8s.
