Sonya’s Blog - Day 112 - October 12th - Happy Thanksgiving!
Today is Thanksgiving and we are very thankful that it is a warmer morning and is going to be a beautiful day (high of 20). There is a beautiful beach about 5 minutes from our campsite so we are going to check that out this afternoon. Blake and I need to do some errands first and the kids are going to do some school work. It is Columbus Day in the United States, so they have a holiday day too.
Blake and I need to get a US cell phone plan and buy some groceries, mostly turkey breasts or something so that we can have a Thanksgiving meal tonight. We don’t have a ton of food right now because we were trying not to buy too much until we crossed the border.
We went into Saco first, it is the next town over. We saw an AT&T store right away so we pulled over to go and talk to them. As an added bonus there was a grocery store there as well. I went to the grocery store and Blake went and talked to the dudes at the AT&T store. AT&T has great pre-paid no contract plans and they have super coverage all over the States. The greatest thing about the pre-paid plans is that we cannot get dinged for roaming charges (if we are out of their coverage area our phone just won’t work) and we can cancel at any time. We can get all the texting and calling we want in the US and Canada, plus data (unlimited, but only so much is at high speeds) for $45 to $55 per month. That is a pretty good price. We wanted to check out Sprint as well, or Verizon so we hopped back in the truck. We had looked them all up online, but we needed to talk to them because it wasn’t clear about calling Canada when we were reading their plans online. We will have to pay $5 extra at AT&T to call Canada, but that will be worth it. Sprint’s plans were about the same, but their coverage map was not as good. The guy wasn’t as knowledgable about switching our phones out either, so we are going to stick with AT&T. We went back to AT&T and set up Blake’s phone (my old phone) with a plan. We cannot seem to unlock my phone, so we need to call Bell. First we will need to have Blake’s phone all set up so we don’t get dinged for unnecessary charges by Bell. You can unlock your phone online now, but Bell is not recognizing my IME number. I think it is because I broke the phone Bell sent me, I think 1 day after I received it (oops). Bell wouldn’t do anything for me, so I took it to Apple and told them my sob story. The guy there allowed me to buy Apple Care and then they replaced my phone for $80 or something - sweet! The result is that I now have a phone with a different IME number than the one Bell sent me, so we need to call them. We are happy to have one phone set up and it was relatively painless to do.
Once we were back at the campsite we had lunch and then got ready to go to the beach. We took Kizmet with us and hoped that she would be allowed on the beach or near it.

Old Orchard Beach is a quaint little, resort style town. Lots of Cottages, motels and rentals. It must be very busy in the summertime. The beach is massive, just amazing and we were allowed to have Kizmet on the beach with us. Blake started throwing the frisbee and for the first time she took off after it. She chased and chased the frisbee. She usually loses interest in balls when we throw them, but she didn’t lose interest in the frisbee. There were lots of other people walking their dogs as well, so she had lots of friends to play with. There was lots of people on the beach, but it is so huge that you are not in anyone’s way at all. We walked all the way down to the pier and then got off the beach to walk through the town. It is totally set up like a beachside resort town (which is what it is), with the restaurants, beachwear shops and ice cream parlours just off the beach. There was also an amusement park (closed for the season), mini-golf and an arcade. All the things you would expect. As you walk away from the shopping district there are hundred of cottage rentals along the streets that are close to the beach. They sure were pretty little streets and we got some good pictures.

Once we were back at the truck it was time to go back to the RV and start on supper. We were having turkey, cranberries, green beans, carrots and Caprese Salad, a good little feast. Blake grilled the turkey breasts and I did the rest. My goodness it was some tasty and was ready with the hour (so much easier than doing a whole turkey, but it is different). We ate outside because it was still nice, although cooling off quickly. Blake had started a fire and it was a lovely camping Thanksgiving meal.
After supper we sat around the fire until we ran out of wood and then went inside for the night. The kids and Blake watched a season of Corner Gas and I caught up on my blog postings because the wifi was working really well tonight. I couldn’t even get connected last night, but it is perfect tonight and really fast. After I post this I will be all caught up! Hooray. Natasha promises to get caught up tomorrow and then we will work on Isaac.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
