Sonya's Blog - Day 111 - October 11th - Driving to Old Orchard Beach
We got up bright and early to get ready to leave. I wanted to be on the road by 8, Blake was hoping for 9. I got the kids up at 7 and tried to get them moving. It took awhile, but we got on the road by 8:30. It is 2 1/2 hours to the border, so we will be there before noon. The drive wasn't too exciting, but was really pretty. All the leaves are changing now and the fall colours are fantastic. I tried to get some pictures, but the best spots didn't have anywhere to pull over. The colours don't come out as well in in the pictures, but take my word for it, it's beautiful.

We stopped at Tim Hortons for our last Timmy's hot drinks for 6 months. What will we do? Dunkin Donuts is just not the same and I really don't like them, plus they use styrofoam cups!! The horror!
We got to the border at in good time, but only one lane was open. There were about 6 cars in front of us because 2 people had sped up and cut in front of us before we could get up to the front - NICE! The line moved pretty good and then it was our turn. The guy looked pretty stern and immediately started looking around our truck when we pulled up and told us to turn it off. He took our passports and proceeded to ask Blake questions about what he does for a living, how long we were traveling for, how the kids are being schooled, etc. He asked where the dog was, because Kizmet likes to sleep on the floor. We were about to make her show herself and he said, "oh she's in the truck, that's fine then." Didn't ask us for her paperwork or anything. Then, for the first time ever he wanted to have a look in the trailer. He took our avocado, but let us keep the carrots:) He then told us to take all the firewood out of the truck and that normally they would make us take that back into Canada, but he was going to let us just take it out and leave it there. That was very nice of him. He then told us to have a nice day and we were on our way. Awesome!

We still have 4 1/2 hours of driving ahead of us. We had to turn off our phones because we still don't have a US Sim Card and we don't like Bell's outrageous charges for their US add on plans, plus the data is terrible. We didn't have our destination in the GPS yet and decided to do that once we drove for a bit. Well it was a good thing we did because we had to turn around. Luckily we had only gone a few KM's and we didn't have to backtrack too far. There were two highways that split just after the border crossing and we were on the wrong one. Once we were on the right highway, things went much smoother. The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. We had a couple of stops and fill ups, but nothing too exciting. The trees were just as pretty in Maine as in New Brunswick, so there was lots of colour to look at.

We finally made it to our campsite and set up was a breeze. They have really large sites, that are very level. We backed that trailer in there and got everything right on the first try (doesn't always happen that way). We got all set up in no time and then Blake and Isaac took off to try and figure out our phone situation. Blake's Dad is in the hospital right now, so he doesn't want to be without a phone for too long as he needs to keep in touch.
Natasha and I stayed behind. I cleaned up the RV and Natasha had a shower. The boys got back, but the phones still are not set up. Blake went to Best Buy, but you have to go right to the provider if you want a no contract plan and those stores were closed by the time they found this out. We will try tomorrow, but it is Columbus Day in the States so we are not sure what is open and what is not. We need to celebrate Canada's Thanksgiving as well, so we will look for some turkey breasts or something so that I can do up a small dinner. We are also looking forward to exploring around Old Orchard Beach.
