The First Of September

Yet another year has come and gone and still no Hogwarts letter. Alas, they must keep skipping over my name on the list. This year is important though. Tis the year that Harry’s first child, James Sirius Potter, gets on the train. We must remember this day forever. It’s our first day in Fredericton and Dad found out that it’s only 6km into town. As the Trans Canada Trail is directly behind our trailer, we decided to bike it. Dad had a 3:00pm appointment for an oil change on the truck, so we didn’t have much time but we got down there to the main street area where they have a whole bunch of nice shops. Mum and I walked around the area for a half and hour before meeting up with the boys who were in the park across the street next to the City Hall. There was a little market place set up inside old ammunition storage with a whole bunch of homemade stuff, so we checked that out. Then one of the shop owner’s told Dad that there were free tours of the area starting at the City Hall so we headed over there, but the earliest one was at 2:30pm, so we didn’t have enough time to do it. Instead, we walked over to a coffee shop to get some drinks and I went in the book store next door. I found some really good looking books, including one called Dark Aemilia, which is about a female poet from Queen Elizabeth’s court who befriended William Shakespeare. I didn’t buy anything however. I have enough books for now. I stayed in there so long that the boys were gone when I came back out. Mum and I walked around the shops some more before getting on our bikes and setting off again. The boys were walking Kizzy in Oddell Park, which the bike trail goes past, but we decided just to head right back to the trailer. We didn’t stop for most of the way. Near the very end we halted to read a plaque about the graveyard we were going past. Apparently it was the first domestic graveyard in which blacks and whites were buried side by side. It is also the final resting place of a few famous explorers and war heroes, including one general who’s name I can’t remember who snowshoed all night in a blizzard to find food for his starving soldiers. Back at home I read until the boys got back with the dog. Then we had some dinner of leftovers and corn before playing a game of golf which we didn’t end up finishing. First day of school tomorrow peeps. Peace out m8s.
