A Trip Back In Time

We had tickets for Marvel Universe Live this morning, so we headed into town again, but this time by truck. The trains don’t run on the weekends, which is kind of lame. We had to find parking, which wasn’t as much of a hassle as I expected it to be. We got into the Bell Centre and made our way over to the middle of the complex, where there were many booths full of really super expensive merch. For example, there was a Spiderman sno-cone that costed 15$. The show started at 11:00am and it was all right. It was more for young kids, but some of the actors could really flip around, like the Natasha Romanoff and Peter Parker. It was the Avengers against Loki and the Tesseract again, but they teamed up with the X-Men, Spiderman and Captain Marvel, so that was fun. The first half was only half an hour, and it was kind of slow, what with all of the Avengers assembling and Loki trying to take over the world. The Avengers had to split into three groups in the second half, to find the three parts of the original Tesseract that Thor had destroyed at the beginning of the show. Of course, just when all hope seemed lost, they came through with teamwork and defeated the bad guys, hurray! It was fun to watch, but it wasn’t the most entertaining thing ever. Ah well. After the show was over we drove down towards Old Montreal so we could go check out this 1800’s festival Dad had read about. It took us a while to find it after we made a wrong turn onto the Vieux Port but we got there eventually. It was pretty cool. They had all these booths set up, some with food and clothes and some where historians were sitting, ready to tell anyone who would listen about the history of Quebec. We bought some drinks and watched a couple of folk bands who were wandering around, stopping occasionally to play a few songs. At around lunch time we bought some giant cookies, a few sausages and Spruce Beer and sat around at some picnic

tables. While we were eating one of the cosplayers came up and started yelling in French about a battle between the French and the English. Apparently, the French had been outnumbered on the St. Laurence, twelve boats to four. The French had managed to block the channel and pin the English in. The men on the opposing fleet started to die of scurvy so the doctor came over to the French under a white flag, asking for an escort to land so he could buy some provisions for his boats. The French took him prisoner. The cosplayer guy ended with a pronouncement of : “I love the English, especially when they’re dying.” Charming, of course. After we finished eating and drinking the Spruce Beer, which I really liked, we walked around the stalls a bit longer. Just as we were about to leave, we came across a scuffle in the square. Apparently, this guy had stolen a rutabaga and, while he was being beaten and restrained, he had insulted one of the women who

had tried to offer him help, at which point she started crying. The guards dragged the man over to the stocks on the stairs and read off an official piece of paper, telling the crime and the punishment. The punishment was that the thief had to eat the entire rutabaga. Scrumptious. That was fun to watch. Our last stop at the market was up on a little platform where they had a Native American wigwam set up, a canoe on display and a game where you had to throw coloured sacks into hoops of the same colour. Mum excelled at that game. Once we left, we stopped at a crêperie on the way back to the truck. Isaac and I ordered a Crêpe Sonia to split and a couple of strawberry shortcake smoothies, which were the greatest things to ever exist. When we got back to the campsite I went to the front entry where I spent three hours posting blogs. The most exciting time ever. Woohoo! Peace out m8s.
