Today we made plans to meat up with Dad’s cousins, Donna and Bill, and their kids, Ashley and Liam, so we had the morning to do whatever before we headed over to their place. Dad wanted to visit St. Joseph’s Oratory, so that’s where we went. We brought Kizmet with us, but since she couldn’t very well go up the steps on her knees or pray at the altar, we went inside in twos. The boys went up first whilst Mum and I waited at the bottom. It took a bit for them to come back down because they decided to count all the steps naturally. Mum and I climbed the steps to the top after they came back down and we handed off the dog. The inside of the oratory is quite spectacular. It reminded me of the cathedrals we went in in Europe, except not quite as old. The inside had a large number of different alcoves, used for different praying purposes. We had been in there for about five minutes when the massive organ started to play, which I’ve never heard before in a church. It’s quite different from a piano, thanks to the different levels of keys, and it gives it kind of a contrasting sound, so that you feel like it shouldn’t sound good but it sort of does in a way. It’s an interesting instrument. After we came back down, it was already very hot and we were all hungry, so we went down the hill and found a café not far from the oratory. It was quite expensive, but they had hot chocolate in a bowl, made with really cream and melted Belgian chocolate, so it was totally worth it. Before we left,

we bought a mousse from the bakery to bring to Donna and Bill’s as a peace offering. After we ate, we got bak in the car and were on our way over. When we got to the house we all said hello before going out to the backyard. We talked for a bit, catching up and such things and then we got into the pool. At least some of us did. It really helped with the cool off factor of the day. Bill cooked up some Baton Rouge ribs on the barbecue as a sort of appetizer. For dinner we had burgers and hotdogs with some salad. It was a really good night and Kizmet got along quite well with their dog Bailey, until she found out that she was mildly braver than Bailey and tried to assert her dominance, at which point a little bit of a feud started. We didn’t leave until almost ten o’clock at night. Peace out m8s.
