Don't Dent Your Truck
Next stop, Chicago. We basically drove all day, so here’s a quick rundown. In the morning, we had to pack up, it was already hot as hell by about 9:00am, everybody was grumpy, we had a really hard time hitching the trailer to the truck and then we were on our way. Mum drove first and Dad gave instructions from the back along with some tidbits about Route 66, which we tried to follow at first. However, we were going to stop at a famous cafe for lunch, Mum missed the turn, tried to pull a U-ie and put a nice dent in the side of the truck with the trailer. Then my parents weren’t very happy at each other but we still tried to go to the cafe. It’s closed on Mondays, so we headed over to the Route 66 museum in Litchfield, where we were stopped, and then went next door to a bakery for takeout lunch. Once we were back in the car, we got off 66, as it wasn’t built to accommodate Smaug, and stayed on the interstate until we got to Chicago. In our KOA, we found out Dad’s credit card didn’t have a high enough max to pay for our stay, so we had to call the bank and that took a while. At our campsite, Dad couldn’t get the hitch unlocked, so we had to wiggle around the truck until it did and which point we had to pull the trailer forward again. Now, the hitch was unlocked, so the trailer fell off onto the back of the truck and that’s dent number two in one day. We had a quick dinner, tried to go to the pool. It was closed. Shocker! Dad, Isaac and I threw a football around, then watched some of Star Wars. When we were all about to head off to bed, I happened to check outside my window to see what looked like camera flashed coming from the sky. Dad and I stood outside for a bit to watch it and put our chairs away in preparation for the storm. As it turns out, the “camera flashes” were, in fact, flash lightning and I watched the storm until I fell asleep. It turned out to be kind of a ridiculous day. Make sure you know what you’re doing with your trailer kids. Peace out m8s.
